The 4th Edition of the Quarterly ANA Mbari Series -
The 4th edition of the ANA Mbari Series, themed Writers’ Residency: Its Impact on Creative Writing, took place on March 1, 2025, at the Femi Osofisan Secretariat, Mamman Vatsa Writers’ Village, Maitama Extension, Mpape, Abuja. The event was a huge success, with over 70 participants attending in person, and many others joining virtually.
Opening Remarks were by ANA President Dr. Usman Oladipo Akanbi, followed by the introduction of the new Mbari Series Committee Chairman, Prof. Kyuka Lilymjok, and a tribute to the late Chairman, Prof. Nuhu Omeiza Yaqub.
Panel Discussion featured Prof. Razinat Mohammed (Headliner), Dr. Kabura Zakama (Discussant), Dr. Wale Okediran (Virtual), Dr. B.M. Dzukogi (Virtual) and others on the them for the quarter: the Writers' Residency as critical to development of creative output with potential for award winning.
A tribute session for to Prof. Nuhu Yaqub, honouring his legacy in literature and leadership followed the Discourse.
On the Ken Saro-Wiwa Residency initiative Dr. Akanbi outlined the ANA NEC's plans for the first programme in July 2025.
This edition of Mbari Series provided a platform for rich discussions on how residency programmes can nurture creativity, foster collaboration, and support mental health for writers. Discussants also shared valuable suggestions for the growth of the ANA Writers’ Residency.
Looking ahead: The residency programme will support both local and international writers, with the first batch of residents scheduled for July 2025.
