ANA President Advocates for Public Intellectuals' Role in Social Justice

Dr. Oladipo Usman Akanbi, National President of the Association of Nigerian Authors (ANA), delivered a thought-provoking presentation on "Public Intellectuals, Literary Production and the Search for Social Justice" at the posthumous celebration of Professor Nuhu Omezia Yaqub. The event, jointly organised by the National Institute for Legislative and Democratic Studies (NILDS), the Nigerian Political Science Association (NPSA), and the Society for International Relations Awareness (SIRA), aimed to pay tribute to Prof. Yaqub's legacy.

Dr. Akanbi emphasized the crucial role public intellectuals play in promoting social justice, stressing that literary production should serve as a catalyst for positive change. He argued that public intellectuals have a responsibility to harness their expertise and influence to address societal issues and advocate for justice.

The ANA president's presentation was part of a broader discussion on Nigeria's crises and the challenges of democracy and development. Other notable speakers included Professor Adele Jinadu, Senator Ita Enang, and Barrister Femi Falana, SAN, who shared their insights on various aspects of Nigeria's democratic journey.

Dr. Akanbi's presentation underscored the importance of collaboration between public intellectuals, literary producers, and policymakers in driving social change. His remarks resonated with the audience, comprising academics, politicians, and literary enthusiasts, who gathered to reflect on Prof. Yaqub's contributions to Nigeria's intellectual and political landscape.
